CAT – MP300 SERIES MULTI-PROCESSOR

Caterpillar Work Tools, the leading provider of wheel loader and excavator attachments, is introducing its new line of MP300 Series, a new generation of Multi-Processors for Cat® hydraulic excavators. Caterpillar’s Multi-Processor MP300 Series (MP318 and MP324) can handle virtually any demolition job simply by using the basic housing together with a choice of up to six available jaw sets. Other models will be added to the standard offering at a later stage.

“We are applying technologies which reduce our customers’ owning and operating costs to ensure they make more money when they choose Cat products and the Cat dealer network than they can with any competitive alternative. This new generation of Multi-Processors uses patent pending booster and speed valve technology and a patent pending jaw locking system, which translates to lower costs for customers and lower emissions for the environment” says Richard J. Hermann, Commercial Manager, Caterpillar Work Tools.

Compact, light and strong
The new MP300 Series builds on the success of its predecessor and is compact and light in construction, yet incredibly strong in cutting and crushing capability. The housing’s strong rotator provides a continuous 360° rotation that allows to carry out the demolition job quickly and precisely from any angle. The new MP300 Series will cement its position as the class leading, and most versatile demolition tool.

Easy and simplified jaw exchange
Each Multi-Processor can be equipped with a wide selection of interchangeable jaws;
Concrete Cutter (CC), Demolition (D), Pulveriser (P), Shear (S), Universal (U), and Tank Shear (TS). With one common housing and a properly selected sets of jaws, a contractor can achieve exceptional flexibility with minimum investment, and accomplish most tasks encountered on a demolition job. The various jaws can be quickly installed or changed, thanks to a new patent pending jaw locking system. Instead of taking about 25 minutes to change the jaws with the previous Series, it now takes 10 minutes with only basic tools needed.

Fast cycle times
Cutting and crushing is faster than before. Whenever the jaws meet resistance, an integral hydraulic SpeedBooster automatically kicks in. The new booster design combines a speed valve and new smaller cylinder which nearly halves the jaw open/close cycle times. In addition the closing force has increased up to 6%. This will generate between 10 % (Steel cutting CC-jaw) and up to 50% (Concrete breaking D-Jaw) more production.

Easy maintenance
The new jaws have fewer welds, and replaceable wear parts (Cat GET) therefore fewer stress areas in construction. Protection for hydraulic components and hoses has been increased, and an improved guard gives greater motor protection. In addition, the access to the cylinder has been made easier and the cylinder rod protection has been optimised. The number of greasing points has been reduced, so servicing becomes easy. Daily maintenance only requires greasing, checking wear, and replacing any worn parts.

New Jaw sets
With the release of the MP300 Series, six new jaw sets have been designed to take on any demolition job:

1. Concrete Cutter (CC) Jaw

Concrete Cutter jaws precisely cut and demolish concrete and steel structures. The CC jaws can simultaneously cut and crush large pieces of heavily reinforced concrete with densely packed rebar. They are suitable to demolish beams and steel constructions.

2. Demolition (D) Jaw

Demolition jaws cut and crush hard concrete, moderate reinforced structures and rebar. The D jaws feature a wide opening and are mostly used for primary demolition, to cut the structure into pieces.

3. Pulverizer (P) Jaw

Pulverizer jaws demolish and reduce concrete in a single step, separating rebar from concrete and reducing concrete to small, ready-to-recycle chunks.

4. Shear (S) Jaw

The new S-jaw is designed to better cut and reduce the size of metal items commonly found at demolition sites. It features a piercing tip and wear blade in the upper jaw and a cross blade with additional guiding blade in the lower jaw. The straight lower jaw works with the apex of the upper jaw, compressing and flattening the steel before the cut. The straight lower jaw maximizes shear force and creates a more efficient cut.

5. Universal (U) Jaw

Universal jaws cut reinforced concrete into small manageable chunks for later crushing and separating out the rebar for instance in a mobile crusher. They can be used in both primary and secondary demolition.

6. Tank Shear (TS) Jaw

Tank Shear jaws are used for accurate demolition of plate steel, ships, railway cars, grain, oil and fuel tanks, warehouses, transit sheds and other plate steel storage accommodations. It cuts its way through steel by means of cutting strips.

Replaceable wear parts
All jaw sets feature easy to exchange wear parts. Instead of surface welds, the new jaws have more replaceable wear parts. When worn, a new part can be pinned on, right on the worksite. No time is wasted sending the jaw to the workshop for cleaning, grinding and re-welding.
The D, CC and P jaws benefit from parts commonality and also use Cat GET.

The MP300 Series Multi-Processors are fully supported by Cat dealers ; customers can order parts and service for machines and work tools from a single source. Every Cat work tool is supported with a comprehensive range of pre- and after-sales services that include: advice on work tool selection, operator training, equipment management, and a range of financial and insurance solutions.
